POPULAR NAMES SURVEY: NO SURPRISES

The annual survey of most popular children's names in West Cornwall has, as in previous years, produced few surprises. The survey, conducted by the Royal Prophylactic and Contraception Society (formerly the Royal Society for the Prevention of Children) shows that the Wesleyan tradition of giving Cornish children biblical names is still hugely influential.

For the second year running, Barrabas is the most popular boy's name, followed closely by Goliath. A surprise entry at number 5, appearing from nowhere last year, is Mammon.

As for the girls, Jezebel is as popular as ever, just displacing Delilah for the top spot.
